Congratulations Steve!

Our own Steve Morgan has been awarded “Best Chapter Leader”! It’s a high honor, and very well deserved.

Our submission was crafted by members of our team and was then organized as the following by our current President Adil Khan.

It is with great admiration and appreciation that we nominate Steve Morgan for the Best AEE Local Chapter Leadership Award in recognition of his exceptional leadership, unwavering commitment, and transformative contributions to the Rocky Mountain Association of Energy Engineers (RMAEE) chapter.
At a time when many AEE chapters across the country folded or fell dormant, Steve Morgan stood as the unshakable pillar of RMAEE. He not only kept the chapter afloat during the most uncertain and challenging periods—particularly the COVID-19 pandemic—but breathed new life into it. For nearly a decade, Steve served as chapter president and, in many ways, was the chapter’s lifeblood. During the pandemic, when many would have understandably stepped away, Steve became a one-man show, single-handedly ensuring the chapter’s continuity and engagement.
But Steve’s leadership goes far beyond just keeping the lights on. He recognized the need for a more sustainable and inclusive approach, and intentionally cultivated a new generation of board members and volunteers. He built a cohesive team, established new committees, and welcomed fresh voices, empowering others to contribute and thrive. His mentorship and collaborative spirit have positioned RMAEE for long-term success.
Under Steve’s stewardship, the chapter experienced a renaissance. He led the return to in-person events, oversaw the launch of a new custom-built chapter website, revitalized the chapter newsletter, and helped establish a local CWEEL presence—an important milestone for representation and engagement within our field. He also led the revision of chapter bylaws, improved operational procedures, and enhanced overall event efficiency and membership engagement.
As one board member aptly stated:
“Steve Morgan not only served as president of the Rocky Mountain chapter of AEE over the last ten or so years, he served as the lifeblood of the chapter for much of that time. Steve essentially was a one-man show for the administration of RMAEE through the pandemic and kept the chapter operational during the very uncertain time.”
Another shared:
“Steve has been instrumental in positioning new board members for success. He makes time to meet with them, provides historical context to current operations, and is always supportive of new ideas and initiatives. He’s a personable mentor, and I’ve deeply appreciated his leadership.”
Today, as Steve steps back from the chapter presidency, his legacy continues to shape and guide the chapter. His impact is not only seen in operational success but also felt in the culture of mentorship, inclusion, and innovation that he has instilled. Steve Morgan exemplifies the spirit of AEE leadership—resilient, forward-thinking, and community-driven.
We can think of no one more deserving of this recognition than Steve Morgan.
